IDX for Wix

Add MLS & IDX Property Search to Your Wix Website

Tried adding a property search with Wix's embed HTML element and ended up with a cramped scrolling box? Listify IDX sits right on your page instead. You or your web team copy and paste a single piece of code, called an embed code, using one of two simple methods.

Why a bigger embed box doesn't fix it

Wix shows anything in its embed HTML element inside a frame, called an iframe, that's walled off from the rest of your page. Wix's own documentation says it "creates a sandboxed environment (an iframe) that does not have direct access to the other elements on your page", and its help center warns that code there won't resize to fit the screen and can get cut off with scroll bars. Making the box bigger still leaves visitors scrolling inside your page.

Listify IDX adds MLS property search for agents and real estate offices on Wix. Your embed code goes in through Wix's custom code settings, with an optional second step if you want to place the search exactly where you like on the page.

Decide where the search interface should appear

Your embed code has two lines. The first loads Listify IDX, and the second marks the spot where the search shows up. Both methods below put the search right on your page. Method 1 adds it after the page's other content. Method 2 lets you drag it to a specific spot in your layout.

Buyers get a search that fits the width of the page, and each listing opens with its own link on your website. Pick the method based on where you want people to browse, then check the published page on a phone as well as a computer.

How to add Listify IDX to Wix

First, once your account is approved, copy your embed code from your Listify dashboard. It looks like this, with your own ID in it:

<script
  src="https://embed.listify.dev"
  type="module"
  data-embed-id="your-embed-id"
></script>
<listify-search></listify-search>

Method 1: Custom code only (no work in the editor)

Best for a page that's just for searching homes. The search appears after the page's own content.

  1. Make sure your site is published and has its own web address (a connected domain).
  2. In your site's dashboard, go to Settings, then Custom Code under Development & integrations, and click + Add Custom Code.
  3. Paste your whole embed code into the box and give it a name, such as "Listify IDX".
  4. Under "Add Code to Pages", choose only the page that should show the search, such as your "Search Homes" page.
  5. Under "Place Code in", choose Body – end, then click Apply.

Pros: no changes in the editor, and it uses the same place Wix keeps things like analytics and chat tools. Cons: you can't place the search between other sections, and you need to recheck the page setting if you rename or add pages.

Method 2: Custom code plus a custom element (a bit more editor work)

Best when you want the search in a specific spot on the page.

  1. Add only the first line of your embed code through custom code as in Method 1, but apply it to all pages and place it in Body – end.
  2. In the Wix editor, open the page for the search and add a Custom Element from the Embed Code options. This is a box you can move around like any other element.
  3. Set its tag name to listify-search (the name from the second line of your embed code), then size and position it.
  4. Publish the site and check the page.

Pros: you place the search visually in your layout. Cons: Wix requires a Premium plan, a connected domain and no Wix ads for custom elements, and the custom element settings also ask for a script web address.

What you need

  • A Wix Premium plan with its own web address. Wix only lets you add custom code to a published site with a connected domain, and connecting a domain needs a Premium plan.
  • A listing data source. Listings come from the data sources you connect: listing platforms we already integrate with, MLS feeds (including standard RESO Web API feeds), or your own custom API. Contact support with specific questions about data sources and integration.
  • A Listify IDX account, which gives you your embed code.

Give the map and photos room

Once the search is set up, visitors can switch between a map and a list to explore homes. Filters help narrow the choices, and listings in the same building are grouped on the map. Opening a property gives buyers room to browse its photos, including full-screen galleries and virtual tours where available.

The search fits your page instead of a fixed-size box. Listify IDX Plus and higher plans add your own branding and a map-first layout. Leave enough space around the search in Wix so buyers can use it comfortably on smaller screens.

Listing pages that belong to your website

Getting out of the frame also helps your site show up in search. Every listing gets its own page on your Wix website that Google can find, so a buyer can find and share a property on your site. Read more about IDX without iframes.

Wix still runs your website

Keep editing and hosting your site in Wix. Listify IDX adds property search and sends visitor inquiries to you. It doesn't host websites or include a CRM (contact management) tool, so keep using the tools you have for managing contacts.

If you move to a different website builder later, Listify IDX also works on Webflow, Squarespace, WordPress and custom-built sites.

Check the fit on your own Wix site

FAQ

Getting past the Wix embed problem

Wix puts anything in its embed HTML element inside a frame (an iframe) that's walled off from the rest of your page. Wix's own help says code there won't resize to fit the screen and can get cut off with scroll bars. Listify IDX needs to sit right on your page, so it goes in through Wix's custom code settings instead.

In practice, yes. Wix only lets you add custom code to a published site with its own web address (a connected domain), and connecting a domain needs a Premium plan. Placing the search with a custom element (Method 2 below) also needs a Premium plan with no Wix ads.

If you want the search on its own page, such as "Search Homes", Method 1 is simplest and needs no work in the Wix editor. If you want the search placed between other sections on a page, use Method 2. Contact support with your site's web address if you're not sure.

Yes. The search adjusts to fit any screen size. Check your page in Wix's mobile preview after you set it up, because Wix lets you adjust or hide things on mobile separately.

No. A free Wix site can't connect its own web address, and Wix requires one before you can add custom code.
