IDX for Squarespace

IDX Property Search for Squarespace Real Estate Websites

You have a Squarespace site you like. Give buyers a reason to stay on it: copy and paste a single piece of code into a page, called an embed code, and Listify IDX adds MLS property search to your existing template.

A home search alongside your local expertise

Your Squarespace site may already have your neighborhood guides and the story of your business. When someone is ready to look at homes, they need a search on that same site.

Listify IDX adds MLS property search for real estate agents and offices. You or your web team add it to a Squarespace page and keep the template you've chosen. Buyers can browse homes for sale without leaving for another search site.

What goes on your search page

Your embed code goes into one code block, a Squarespace block that holds code you paste in. When someone opens the page, they can search listings and explore the map. Opening a property brings up its details and photos, with a link they can save or send to someone else.

The search experience sits right on your page, instead of inside a frame with its own scroll bar. Every listing gets its own page on your website that Google can find. Learn how this helps your site show up in search.

How to add Listify IDX to Squarespace

  1. Once your account is approved, copy your embed code from your Listify dashboard.
  2. In Squarespace, open the page where you want the search (a page such as "Search Homes" or "Listings" works well) and click Edit.
  3. Click where you want to add something, choose Code from the block menu, and add the block.
  4. In the code block, set the mode to HTML, paste your embed code, and leave Display Source turned off.
  5. Save the page. To check it, use Preview in Safe Mode or open the live page in a private browser window, because added code often doesn't run while you're logged in to the editor.

Your embed code looks like this, with your own ID in it:

<script
  src="https://embed.listify.dev"
  type="module"
  data-embed-id="your-embed-id"
></script>
<listify-search></listify-search>

Stretch the code block to full width so the map and listings have room. Avoid index pages, and turn off Ajax loading if your template has it, because Squarespace says added code may not run in either case.

Faster pages as your site grows. Squarespace sites often pick up extra tools over time, like scheduling, chat, or analytics. For those sites, Listify IDX supports an advanced loading setup, where parts of the embed code are placed a little differently on your site. It's a common way to keep pages quick, so your text and photos show up first and the search fills in right after. Many IDX providers instead rely on one script that often holds up the whole page. Check your plan before you start

Squarespace runs added code on its Core, Plus or Advanced plans, and on Business or Commerce under the older plan names. The Personal plan doesn't. Check this before you spend time laying out your search page.

You also need a Listify IDX account and a listing data source. Listings come from the data sources you connect: listing platforms we already integrate with, MLS feeds (including standard RESO Web API feeds), or your own custom API. Contact support with specific questions about data sources and integration.

Help buyers picture the property

Buyers can narrow their search with filters or browse the map to see what's available in an area. Grouped map pins help them find several listings in the same building.

Property pages have room for large photos and full-screen galleries. Virtual tours appear when available. The search fits phones, so someone following a link from a text can keep browsing. Listify IDX Plus and higher plans add your own branding and highlighted new and featured listings.

If you change website builders later

Listify IDX also works on Webflow, Wix and WordPress, as well as custom-built sites. If you redesign, the same embed code goes on your new site.

Keep Squarespace for the rest of your website

Listify IDX adds property search. It doesn't host websites or replace Squarespace's website tools, and it doesn't include a CRM (contact management) tool. Inquiries come to you, and you use the tools you already have to manage contacts and follow up.

FAQ

Questions before you edit your Squarespace page

No. Squarespace only runs added code on its Core, Plus and Advanced plans (Business and Commerce on older plans). On Personal, Squarespace removes the part of the embed code the search needs, so it can't load.

Probably not. Squarespace often doesn't run added code while you're logged in and editing. Open the page with "Preview in Safe Mode" or view the live site in a private browser window, and the search appears.

Yes, as long as your template lets you add a code block to a page, which most do. Put the search on a regular page rather than an index page (a page that combines several pages into one). If your template has a setting called Ajax loading, turn it off, because Squarespace says added code may not run on index pages or with Ajax loading on.

If you're comfortable adding blocks to a Squarespace page, yes. You add a code block, paste in your embed code and save. Check your Squarespace plan first, and contact support if you or your web team need help.
